Ideas for formal room radiator cover? | |
Hi, I'd like to make radiator covers for my formal parlor. I'd like them to be wood and have some ornate features. The room is gothic victorian decor. Does anyone know how I can get some ideas and/or photos to determine what I want to make? These are low radiators that sit under a window and are approximately 23" high, 58" long and 11' deep.

1Just look on the Internet for "history of furniture" or "Victorian decor". A trip to a book store or library would probably merit more ideas than you would know what to do with.
As you know, you need a perforated material to allow heat to escape. The nicest rad covers I've seen that were made recently were very simple, oak, with a pattern (cut on a scroll saw) at the bottoms, and a nice routered profile to the top which overhang the (vertical) front and sides by about an inch. I don't think you have to get too fancy to create something absolutely stunning. I'd trade in my baseboard heaters for real radiators any day - you're very lucky to have them! Good luck.
